Stephan joined BCI Lawyers after having previously worked in the Workplace Relations, Employment and Safety law teams at Clayton Utz and Minter Ellison in Brisbane.
He has extensive experience in managing all aspects of both statutory and common law workers compensation injury claims, in defending workplace health and safety prosecutions and in providing strategic advice to employers on a variety of employment law related issues, including unfair/unlawful termination, discrimination, redundancy, restraint of trade/confidentiality and privacy issues.
Stephan has extensive litigation experience. He has represented WorkCover insured employers and self-insured employers in successfully defending statutory workers compensation claims on review to Q-Comp and on appeal in the courts and has represented self-insured employers in litigated common law workers compensation damages claims. Further, he has represented employers in the defence of workplace health and safety prosecutions and both employers and individuals in unfair/unlawful termination claims and discrimination complaints before the relevant Commissions and Tribunals.
In addition to his litigation experience, Stephan has experience in drafting a variety of workplace policies and procedures, employment agreements, consultancy agreements and independent contractor agreements.
Stephan is a member of the National Safety Council of Australia and regularly conducts training sessions for clients in relation to various workplace health and safety issues, the management of workers compensation claims and on a broad range of employment law related issues.
